Developing Leaders Committee
All NAIOP Members 35 years of age or younger are considered Developing Leaders or as we call them “DL’s”.
This committee works on programing for this subsect of our membership and finds special opportunities for them to engage with and learn from more seasoned professionals in the Commercial Real Estate Industry.
Awards of Excellence Committee
(April – December)
Goal:
To produce an annual luncheon that recognizes excellence in the real estate industry via a number of award categories. To develop and organize the criteria and procedure for selecting the award nominees and winners. To raise funds from sponsorships and attendance so that the event meets budget projections as determined by the Board of Directors.
Duties of Chair and Committee:
- Confirm categories for nominations
- Form nominating committee for projects to be considered
- Alert members and general public so that nominations can be submitted.
- Form committee to choose finalists
- Establish Criteria for finalists to be judged on
- Notify finalists
- Arrange and plan Video Presentation for Judging and Banquet
- Obtain sponsors
- Design invitation and program
- Establish budget for expenses including invitations, decorations awards, etc.
- Arrange for master of ceremonies and agenda for events
- Produce the program with necessary actors, props, decorations, and other related items.
Golf Tournament
(April – September)
Goal:
To organize and hold an annual golf tournament for NAIOP Members and guests. The event should focus on networking. The event should be structured so that the Chapter can raise funds for the annual budget and for a designated non-profit such as the regional science fair. The amount will be determined by the Board and Executive Committee.
Duties of the Committee Member:
- Solicit by email or personal requests NAIOP members to serve on the committee.
- Develop promotional materials.
- Sell sponsorships and enroll team participants.
- Secure volunteers for the day of the event.
- Develop the agenda for the day and choose location.
- Handle all equipment and food requirements.
- Work with non-profit group to include them in the event.
- Provide report to Board of Directors as needed.
Investment Committee
(Once a Quarter)
Goal:
To oversee Chapter investments and procedures. To advise Board and Executive Committee on financial matters and tax-related issues.
Duties of the Chairs:
- To meet quarterly or as needed and provide a report and advice to the Board.
- Direct investment staff on what to do with the chapter investment accounts.
- Ensure that the investment staff and chapter are abiding by the investment policy of the chapter.
Fight Night Committee
(January – October)
Goal:
To successfully organize and execute a captivating and engaging “Fight Night” event that reflects the spirit of camaraderie and competition within the commercial real estate development community, while fostering networking opportunities and promoting a vibrant chapter culture for NAIOP New Mexico.
Duties of the Committee Members:
- Brainstorm and develop an event concept that aligns with the vision of the “Fight Night” while catering to the unique characteristics and preferences of the NAIOP New Mexico community.
- Identify and secure a suitable venue for the event, considering factors such as capacity, accessibility, and the overall atmosphere that complements the theme of the “Fight Night.” Manage all logistical aspects, including equipment, seating arrangements, and technical requirements.
- Actively recruit participants from within the commercial real estate development community, promoting active involvement and engagement in the event. Encourage participation from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and dynamic competition atmosphere.
- Collaborate with the sponsorship committee to secure sponsorships and explore fundraising opportunities to support the event, ensuring that sponsors receive adequate visibility and recognition during the “Fight Night” activities.
- Ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and safety protocols for the event, including obtaining required permits, implementing necessary security measures, and adhering to health and safety guidelines to guarantee the well-being of all participants and attendees.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing and promotion plan to generate excitement and interest in the “Fight Night” event. Utilize various channels such as social media, email campaigns, and traditional advertising methods to maximize outreach and attendance.
- Design an engaging event program that includes a well-structured competition schedule, captivating entertainment segments, and networking opportunities, ensuring a dynamic and memorable experience for all attendees.
- Develop and implement a strategic ticket sales plan to encourage early ticket purchases and maximize event attendance. Coordinate with the marketing team to launch targeted promotional campaigns across various platforms, emphasizing the unique aspects and highlights of the “Fight Night” event to attract a diverse audience. Implement ticket tracking mechanisms and regularly monitor sales progress, adjusting promotional strategies as needed to achieve optimal ticket sales and event attendance.
- Recruit and train volunteers to assist with various event tasks, including registration, ushering, and event logistics management, ensuring smooth operations and a seamless experience for all participants and guests.
- Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the “Fight Night” event, gathering feedback from participants, sponsors, and attendees to assess the event’s success, identify areas for improvement, and gather insights for planning future iterations of the event.
- Foster a sense of community engagement and relationship building among participants, sponsors, and attendees, emphasizing the value of collaboration and camaraderie within the NAIOP New Mexico commercial real estate development community, and nurturing long-term connections beyond the event.
PAC Committee
(Year round)
Goal:
Communicate the goals and interests of the business community to candidates running for office. Help elect pro-business candidates to office.
Duties of Committee Members:
- Solicit by email or personal requests NAIOP members to serve on the committee.
- Meet with potential candidates for office.
- Make decisions for the PAC for endorsements.
- Solicit other business groups to participate in NAIOP endorsements.
- Help fundraise for the PAC via individual requests for donations and hosting fundraising parties.
- Provide report to Board of Directors as needed.
Rio Rancho Roundtable Committee
(January – November)
Goal:
To assist in choosing topics, arranging for speakers, and coordinating presentations of the Rio Rancho Round Tables each year.
Duties of Committee Members:
- Work with the Chapter Staff and attending members of the Planning Session to choose topics and speakers for each round table in the coming year.
- Contact speakers for each round table, confirming their acceptance, the outline of their presentation, any audio-visual needs, any handouts.
- Send short summary of the round table and speaker titles and companies to the NAIOP member who is producing the invitations.
- Organize speakers before the event, holding a conference call or sending emails confirming order of appearance, scope of presentation, time and place of round table, handouts and audio-visual needs.
- If possible, provide a company volunteer for registering members on day of the round table.
- Alert Board if there is any change or cancellation of speakers, and work with Chapter President and Executive Director to plan a new round table topic.
STEM Research Fair (aka Science Fair) Committee
(January – April)
Goal:
To oversee the Chapter’s involvement with the UNM STEM Research Fair and to coordinate Chapter activities with the fair’s staff.
Duties of the Committee Member:
- Solicit by email or personal requests NAIOP members to serve on the committee.
- Procure, train and organize judges for the April Fair.
- Promote the event to Chapter membership and encourage involvement as a judge or to donate prizes or in-kind supplies/equipment.
- Work with Monthly Luncheon Chair to showcase Fair winners at Chapter Luncheon in April or May. Help organize this event.
- Provide report to Board of Directors as needed.
Nominating Committee
(May-September)
Goal:
To ensure the diversification and representation of the commercial real estate development community within the NAIOP New Mexico board by effectively identifying and recruiting new members.
Duties of Committee Members:
- Evaluate the current composition of the board and identify any gaps or areas for improvement regarding diversity and representation within the commercial real estate development community
- Collaborate with the committee to define clear criteria for prospective board members, ensuring that diversity in terms of backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives is prioritized.
- Engage in proactive networking with industry professionals and organizations to identify potential candidates who can contribute diverse insights and experiences to the board.
- Provide regular updates to the executive director and the board regarding the progress of the recruitment process, including challenges faced, potential candidates, and strategies for enhancing diversity and representation.
- Thoroughly review submitted applications and recommendations, considering the alignment of candidates’ qualifications and experiences with the established criteria for board membership.
- Advocate for the importance of diversity and inclusion within the commercial real estate development community, highlighting the value of different perspectives in decision-making and problem-solving processes.
Seminar Committee
(December 2023 – March 2024)
Goal:
To plan, organize and oversee one or one, ½ day seminar sessions that provides 5 CEU credits to attendees and meets the Chapter budget requirements.
Duties of the Committee:
- Work with chapter staff and other committee members to identify seminar topic, the 5 sessions and secure speakers.
- Set financial budget so that the chapter revenue goals are met.
- Based off topics, choose and contact speakers for the event, confirming their acceptance, the outline of their presentation, any audio-visual needs, any handouts, and any travel arrangements. Alert Chapter Staff concerning the last three.
- Arrange rehearsal meetings with speakers within panels.
- Develop attendee handouts and invitation format for the seminar.
- Work with chapter staff to solicit sponsors.
- Send speaker resumes and summary of the luncheon to the New Mexico Real Estate Commission. These should be sent as early in the year as possible to facilitate approval for CEU credits. They MUST be sent before the seminar is held.
- Send a short summary of the event and speaker titles and companies to the Chapter Staff for production of the invitations. This must be done early so that members have at least 9 weeks notice for the seminars.
- Organize speakers before the event, holding a conference call or sending emails confirming order of appearance, scope of presentation, time and place of luncheon, handouts, and audio-visual needs.
- If possible, provide a company volunteer for registering members on the day of the luncheon.
- Work with Chapter Staff and Committee on theme, room set-up, handouts, table displays, etc. for event.
- Alert Chapter Staff if there is any change or cancellation of speakers, and work with Chapter Chairman and Chapter Staff to obtain new speaker(s).
- Set financial budget so that the chapter revenue goals are met.
- Make monthly reports to the Board of Directors as needed.
Government Affairs Committee
(Year round)
Goal:
To work with NAIOP lobbyists during the legislative session and assist when necessary. To stay in contact with interim legislative committees which affect the industry year-round. To maintain contacts with national congressional representatives and up-to-date on national real estate issues. Give input on weekly Government Affairs emails from the Chapter Executive Director.
Duties of Committee Members:
- Read weekly Government Affairs emails from the Chapter Executive Director and give input.
- Help identify Albuquerque Integrated Development Ordinance changes and assist with the review and amendment process.
- Identify and help craft language for state and local legislation.
- Help chapter determine positions on key issues.
- Help testify both in person and in writing on legislative issues as needed.
Outreach Committee
(Year round)
Goal:
To effectively enhance membership recruitment, growth, and engagement within the NAIOP New Mexico chapter, while optimizing positive interactions on social media platforms, facilitating new member onboarding, and leveraging membership participation in chapter events.
Duties of Chair and Committee:
- Collaborate with the committee to create a robust outreach plan that integrates various approaches for attracting new members, enhancing engagement, and converting memberships into active participation in chapter events.
- Regularly share NAIOP and industry-related posts on various social media platforms, encouraging meaningful discussions and interactions to foster a vibrant online community within the commercial real estate development sector.
- Proactively monitor social media platforms for relevant industry discussions and comments, engaging with users by providing valuable insights, answering inquiries, and fostering a positive and informative online presence for NAIOP New Mexico.
- Develop an onboarding plan for new members, ensuring they receive necessary information, resources, and guidance to integrate seamlessly into the NAIOP New Mexico community.
- Serve as a welcoming committee for new members, initiating personalized communications, and facilitating introductions to existing members, enabling them to build meaningful connections and feel actively engaged within the chapter.
- Work closely with the sponsorship committee to leverage existing memberships for sponsorship opportunities at chapter events, fostering relationships with members and emphasizing the benefits and visibility associated with sponsoring NAIOP New Mexico events.
- Regularly collect feedback from both new and existing members to assess the effectiveness of the onboarding process, social media engagement, and event conversion strategies, utilizing the insights gained to refine and improve outreach initiatives and member experiences.
Cultivate a culture of active participation, collaboration, and support within the NAIOP New Mexico community, emphasizing the value of each member’s contributions and fostering a welcoming environment for all individuals interested in commercial real estate development.
